Born in July 1986 in Tucson, Arizona, Huff enlisted after Mountain View High School and deployed in December 2004 with the 170th Military Police Company to help train local police. On 17 April 2005, after guarding an Iraqi police station, her Humvee was hit by a roadside bomb on the return to base; she died the next day at eighteen. Her parents accepted the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart on her behalf. Those two names are the published decoration types here.
