Missing in action — DPAA's public Gulf Wars accounting page still lists Lt. Cmdr. Barry T. Cooke, of Austin, Texas, as unaccounted for. He was lost on February 2, 1991, when his A-6 went down in the Persian Gulf. The Navy later entered a finding of death. That administrative close is not recovered remains.
Barry Thomas Cooke was a Navy attack pilot from Austin, Texas, flying the A-6 Intruder with Attack Squadron 36 from USS Theodore Roosevelt during Operation Desert Storm. On February 2, 1991, that airplane went down in the Persian Gulf. Search did not bring him back.
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency still names him among the unaccounted from Desert Storm. The public case line is short on purpose: an A-6 lost at sea, a named lieutenant commander, no identified remains. This page will not print unofficial missile types, wreck gossip, or private-family interviews. It will not treat a 1991 finding of death as a grave.
He is one of the two Desert Storm aircrew DPAA still carries as missing from that war. The other names from later Iraq contractor losses are a separate ledger. This register lists him because the government file is still open, not because a short air war needed a thicker missing list.
