Frederick Funston Henry left Vian, Oklahoma, for the Army a week before his twenty-first birthday and already had Pacific war time behind him when Korea opened. By the last night of August 1950 he was a first lieutenant in Company F, 2nd Battalion, 38th Infantry, 2nd Infantry Division, holding a sector of the Pusan Perimeter as North Korean forces tried to break the pocket.

In the dark of August 31 into September 1, his platoon was nearly overrun. Badly wounded, he set up a one-man position and covered the withdrawal and the evacuation of wounded men, firing until the position was overrun. He was never reported as a prisoner. Remains have not been recovered. The Medal of Honor followed in February 1951; the rank on paper later rose to captain.

He is on the Courts of the Missing in Honolulu and on the Korean War Veterans Memorial Wall. An administrative finding of death is not a grave.
