Kansas City metro highway work, week of Oct. 12, 2026: I-70 ramp closed Oct. 13–14, Midland Drive and Gardner Road ramps stay shut
KDOT’s Kansas City metro update for the week of Oct. 12, 2026, covers closures and projects in Johnson, Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties: a new two-day closure of the eastbound I-70 exit ramp to 5th Street on Oct. 13–14, long-running ramp closures at Midland Drive and Gardner Road, lane limits on Metcalf Avenue, the reopened K-92 lanes in Leavenworth and the 18th Street Bridge closure through fall 2027.
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) put out its weekly Kansas City metro highway update on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026. It lists closures and projects across three Kansas counties: Johnson, Leavenworth and Wyandotte.
The one new item this week is a short one. The eastbound I-70 exit ramp to 5th Street in Kansas City, Kansas, closes Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 13 and 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for maintenance. In Leavenworth, the good news is that all K-92 lanes at 20th Street are open again.
The longer closures carry on. In Johnson County, the Midland Drive ramp to northbound I-435 stays closed through Dec. 21 and two I-35 ramps at Gardner Road stay closed through Dec. 15. In Wyandotte County, U.S. 69 (18th Street) remains fully closed between Kansas Avenue and Ruby Avenue until fall 2027 for the new Kansas River bridge.
