Town of Geneva, N.Y., fall newsletter: sewer rates may rise, new homes on Carter Road, free shredding Oct. 17 (register by Oct. 14)
The Town of Geneva's fall Town Times says town properties on city sewer may see a significant rate increase after a City of Geneva rate study, single-story homes are going up on Carter Road, and Ontario County residents can register through Oct. 14 for a free paper shredding event on Oct. 17.
The Town of Geneva in Ontario County, New York, published Issue 27 of its Town Times newsletter for fall 2026, and Supervisor Mark Venuti emailed it to residents on Oct. 12. Here are the parts residents are most likely to need.
Water and sewer bills. The City of Geneva finished a rate study and plans to raise water and sewer rates. The town says properties on city water will see an increase, and town properties on sewer may see a significant increase to cover costs the city passes on. The 2027 town budget is headed to the Town Board, and the supervisor says the sewer budget is the only substantial change.
Town finances. The supervisor says the New York State Comptroller's review of the town's 2025 financial report found the town in good shape with no cause for concern.
New homes and a sidewalk. Construction has started on the Rolling Hills development of single-story homes on small lots on Carter Road, expected to sell for about $150,000 to $250,000. A sidewalk is being built on Carter Road from Gambee Road to Angelo Street for a safer walk to school. A park with trails is being designed on the town's 20-acre parcel behind the North Side firehouse and will likely be built in 2028. Phase 3 of Glass Factory Bay Heights is also under construction.
Water, sewer and roads. The State Route 14 sewer station upgrade is finished, with bigger pumps, new grinders, new electrical gear and a new generator to handle growth and heavy rain. The town says every drinking water test in the past year met state and federal standards. Carter Road, Dwyer Drive, Slosson Lane, Orchard Park Drive, Blossom Lane, Parkway Street, Washington Street and Hastings Road were chip sealed this year. The highway department reminds residents to make mailboxes sturdy enough for plowed snow, since the town is not responsible for plow damage to mailboxes.
Free shredding Oct. 17. Ontario County's confidential paper shredding event is Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, at the County Transportation Center. It is free for Ontario County residents, registration is required through Oct. 14 or until full, the limit is five legal-size boxes per household, and only personal household papers are accepted. Questions: 585-393-3090.
Recycling stickers and deer permits. Yellow 2027 recycling stickers are on sale at town hall for $30. The state DEC has removed the antlerless deer quota in the wildlife management unit around Geneva, so hunters can take as many antlerless deer as they wish in open seasons with a deer management permit. Permits are first come, first served starting Nov. 1, and each registered antlerless deer earns a free bonus tag.
Tax relief. The assessor notes a new optional property tax exemption for veterans the VA rates as permanently and totally disabled. For Enhanced STAR, the income limit for homeowners 65 and older is $110,750 for 2026 and $113,550 for 2027. The STAR exemption is closed to new homeowners, who can get the STAR credit instead if household income is $500,000 or less.

All three boards meet in public.
