Captured north of Koto-ri on November 29, 1950 with Task Force Drysdale during the Chosin withdrawal; died in captivity of frozen feet and malnutrition at Kanggye; remains not identified among those returned after the ceasefire. Memorialized on the Courts of the Missing, National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, and on the Korean War Veterans Memorial Wall. Deferred is not a recovered grave.
Edwin Peter Ogrodnik was born June 30, 1930, and entered the Marine Corps from New York — Buffalo and Erie County in the public casualty line. By the last days of November 1950 he was a private first class in the Military Police Company of Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marines, riding the choked road that was supposed to keep Chosin connected to Hungnam.
On November 29, Task Force Drysdale pushed north from Koto-ri. Chinese roadblocks and blown bridges trapped part of the convoy. Ogrodnik was captured north of Koto-ri. He died later in captivity at Kanggye from frozen feet and malnutrition. After the ceasefire, his remains were not identified among those returned to U.S. custody.
