Dover lost Doyle Neil Kenagy on October 19, 2015. He was 87. He was born on October 7, 1928 in a Finnish-American family that measured love in finished chores. From the start, he treated promises like tools: keep them sharp, do not lend them lightly.
He led sheds that turned soil into something gardens could trust. A potting shed trowel hung by a nail preferred work over speeches. Colleagues still mention a potting shed trowel hung by a nail.
He and Joyce married in 1952 and raised a son and a daughter without needing an audience. After Joyce's death in 2008, he held to quiet habits—coffee before dawn, a tended yard, a voice on the phone that still checked in.
Neighbors remember covered dishes that arrived without a speech. Mornings were his favorite shift at home. He died in Dover, on streets that already knew his pace. The extra coffee is still in the thermos.
What remains is not a legend but a practice: showing up, keeping a promise, leaving a place better than you found it. His life was the kind America is built from and too often forgets to name.

A quiet remembrance in Dover. Those who wish may give to a neighborhood library, food pantry, or workers' aid fund instead of flowers.
