Louise Dee Yoakum died in Honolulu on April 15, 2025. She was 83. She was born on January 23, 1942 in a Hungarian-American family that measured love in finished chores. She learned early that a day is something you finish, not something you wait for.
She kept tallies that turned lumber into wages without inventing lengths. A lumber tally book yellowed but legible outlasted three managers. Colleagues still mention a lumber tally book yellowed but legible.
She married Donald in 1964. They kept a house that stayed modest when the neighborhood did not. They raised three children through public schools and ordinary weather. After Donald died in 2018, she kept the routines that still made sense: the walk, the garden, the Sunday call.
Neighbors remember someone who swept the sidewalk past the property line when weather had been unfair. She liked early mornings before the heat or the noise. She died in Honolulu, among streets she never needed to explain. The work gloves still keep the shape of a grip.
Services
A memorial gathering in Honolulu with coffee afterward. In lieu of flowers, a gift to a local workers' fund, clinic, or neighborhood library is welcome.
