Heavy rain is causing flash flooding in southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia. The National Weather Service in Tallahassee, Florida, issued two new Flash Flood Warnings early Monday, Oct. 5, 2026. The first warning covers central Dale County. NWS Tallahassee issued it at 2:46 a.m. CDT Monday, Oct. 5, 2026 (12:46 a.m. Pacific). It lasts until 5:45 a.m. CDT (3:45 a.m. Pacific). Radar showed 1 to 2 inches of rain already fallen, with 1 to 3 inches more possible. The second warning covers east central Dale County, all of Henry County in Alabama, and Clay, Quitman and Randolph counties in Georgia. NWS Tallahassee issued it at 4:42 a.m. EDT (3:42 a.m. CDT, 1:42 a.m. Pacific). It lasts until 7:45 a.m. EDT (6:45 a.m. CDT, 4:45 a.m. Pacific). Radar showed 1 to 3 inches already fallen. Rain could come down at 1.5 to 4 inches in one hour, with 1 to 3 inches more possible. Ozark, Daleville, Fort Rucker, Abbeville, Fort Gaines, Cuthbert and Shellman are among the places named. Flash flooding is happening now or will start soon. Creeks, streams, town streets, highways, underpasses and low spots can flood. An earlier warning for Coffee and Dale counties ended at 4:15 a.m. CDT (2:15 a.m. Pacific); these are new warnings.
What to do: do not drive on flooded roads. Turn around, don’t drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles. Six inches of moving water can knock a person down. A foot or two of moving water can float a car. You cannot tell how deep the water is from the driver’s seat. Be especially careful in the dark, when it is harder to see flooding. If you are in a low spot, move to higher ground. If you are trapped, call 911. If you can report flooding safely, tell local emergency services. Do not treat the end time as an all-clear until weather.gov says the warning is over.

The two warnings, in plain words
Both warnings come from the National Weather Service office in Tallahassee, Florida. That office covers southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia. The product name on both is FFWTAE. Alabama counties here run on Central time. Georgia counties run on Eastern time.
Warning one: central Dale County, Alabama. The headline says it was issued Oct. 5 at 3:46 a.m. EDT until 6:45 a.m. EDT. In Dale County that is 2:46 a.m. to 5:45 a.m. CDT. In Pacific time it is 12:46 a.m. to 3:45 a.m. The bulletin says 1 to 2 inches of rain had fallen at 2:46 a.m. CDT. Another 1 to 3 inches is possible. The VTEC string is /O.NEW.KTAE.FF.W.0029.261005T0746Z-261005T1045Z/.
Warning two: east central Dale County and Henry County in Alabama, plus Clay, Quitman and Randolph counties in Georgia. It was issued at 4:42 a.m. EDT (3:42 a.m. CDT) until 7:45 a.m. EDT (6:45 a.m. CDT). In Pacific time it is 1:42 a.m. to 4:45 a.m. The bulletin says 1 to 3 inches of rain had fallen. The expected rain rate is 1.5 to 4 inches in one hour. Another 1 to 3 inches is possible. The VTEC string is /O.NEW.KTAE.FF.W.0030.261005T0842Z-261005T1145Z/.
For both warnings: Severity is Severe. Urgency is Immediate. Certainty is Likely. The status is Actual. Both are brand-new warnings (NEW on the VTEC line). The hazard is flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. The source is radar indicated.
The impact line names small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Water can cover a road with no warning.
County codes on warning two are ALC045 (Dale), ALC067 (Henry), GAC061 (Clay), GAC239 (Quitman) and GAC243 (Randolph). The FIPS codes used on this page are 01045, 01067, 13061, 13239 and 13243. Alert ids: urn:oid:2.49.0.1.840.0.cbe8b21ba8d702b8f055637a9942679542c98c67.001.1 and urn:oid:2.49.0.1.840.0.cc3e41acccd350aa9e5285f9ff4ee7d4f30ee6ae.001.1.
The Weather Service instruction: turn around, don’t drown when you come to a flooded road. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
Which areas
Dale County, Alabama, is under both warnings. The first covers central Dale County. The second covers east central Dale County.
Henry County, Alabama, and Clay, Quitman and Randolph counties in Georgia are under the second warning only. The bulletin lists all of each of those four counties.
Walter F. George Lake sits on the Chattahoochee River between Alabama and Georgia. It touches Henry, Clay and Quitman counties. Low ground near the lake, creeks that feed it, and roads that dip toward water are the places to watch.
NWS Tallahassee also has a Flood Advisory for Randolph and Terrell counties in Georgia until 8 a.m. EDT, and a Flood Watch that includes Randolph County until 8 p.m. EDT Monday. Check weather.gov for your own spot.
This page names the counties and towns only. It does not print a street address or a house number.
Places the warnings name
Warning one (central Dale County) says some places that will see flash flooding include Daleville, Ozark, Fort Rucker, Enterprise, Level Plains, Newton, Ewell, Blackwell Field airport, Klondyke Hill, Hunt Field, Bagwells Crossroads, Mabson, Browns Crossroads, Waterford, Hanchey Field, Hooper Stage Field, Kelly and Knox Field.
Warning two says some places that will see flash flooding include Abbeville, Fort Gaines, Cuthbert, Shellman, Newville, Bellville, Fort Gaines-Clay Airport, Days Crossroads, Standleys Store, Watson Crossroads, Walter F. George Lake, Pecan, Moores Crossroads, Walter F. George Lock and Dam, Jones Crossing, Bagby State Park, Bethel, Garnersville and Cotton Hill.
The first list also names one local road; this page leaves road names off. This page does not add towns the warnings left out.
If your town is not on a list, you can still be in a warned area. The lists are examples, not a fence. Check weather.gov before you decide you are clear.
Fort Rucker soldiers, families and civilian workers: the post and several of its airfields are named on warning one. Follow installation alerts and stay off flooded roads before the morning commute.
