Heavy thunderstorm rain has already fallen on parts of six parishes in northwest Louisiana. The National Weather Service says the flooding can be life-threatening. Creeks, streets, highways, and underpasses can flood fast. Stay off flooded roads. Turn around, don’t drown.
The National Weather Service office in Shreveport issued this Flash Flood Warning at 8:42 a.m. CDT on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026. It lasts until 12:45 p.m. CDT the same day. That end time is 10:45 a.m. Pacific. If this page and weather.gov disagree, weather.gov wins.
The warning covers only parts of each parish, not every road in the parish. It is one product, FFWSHV, with one clock. Read this clock on its own.
The warning, in plain words
The product code is FFWSHV. The sender is the National Weather Service office in Shreveport. The headline says the warning was issued October 4 at 8:42 a.m. CDT and lasts until October 4 at 12:45 p.m. CDT.
Severity is Severe. Urgency is Immediate. Certainty is Likely. The damage threat on the alert is Considerable. The hazard line says life-threatening flash flooding from thunderstorms. The source line says radar indicated.
At 8:42 a.m. CDT, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 3 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. Another 2 to 4 inches are possible. Flash flooding was ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
The impact line names creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses. Water can cover a road with no warning. You cannot tell the depth from the driver’s seat.
The parish codes on the alert are LAC013 for Bienville, LAC015 for Bossier, LAC017 for Caddo, LAC031 for De Soto, LAC081 for Red River, and LAC119 for Webster. The alert id is urn:oid:2.49.0.1.840.0.91b21105baab69f2147cb80789b39977eef42587.001.1.
The Weather Service instruction is short: turn around, don’t drown when you meet a flooded road. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
Which part of each parish
This is not a warning for every acre of these parishes. The bulletin names a slice of each one.
Southwestern Bienville Parish. Southeastern Bossier Parish. Southeastern Caddo Parish. North-central De Soto Parish. Northwestern Red River Parish. Southeastern Webster Parish. All of those slices are in northwestern Louisiana.
If you live outside the named slice, you can still be close to it. Creeks do not stop at a parish line. Check the live map on weather.gov if you are not sure.
This page names parishes and communities only. It does not print a street address.
Places the warning names
The warning says some locations that will experience the flash flooding include Ringgold, Heflin, Castor, Jamestown, Lake Bistineau South, Mc Dade, Ninock, Koran, Curtis, Elm Grove, Plum Orchard Landing, Caspiana, Lake Bistineau North, Taylortown, Noles Landing, Sligo, Robson, and Ogden.
The bulletin writes one of those places as Mc Dade. That is the place name on the warning. It is not a house number.
Lake Bistineau is named twice, as Lake Bistineau South and Lake Bistineau North. The lake sits where Bienville, Bossier, and Webster parishes meet. This page does not add towns the warning left out.
If your town is not on the list, you can still be in the warned area. The list is examples, not a fence.
This page does not print a street address, a house number, or a numbered highway as a destination.
What to do
Do not drive through water on the road. Six inches of moving water can knock you down. A foot or two can move a car. If you meet water, turn around.
Stay out of creeks, underpasses, and low parking lots that are filling. If you are in a low spot in the warned part of your parish, move to higher ground before the street becomes the creek.
The end time on this page is 12:45 p.m. CDT Sunday, which is 10:45 a.m. Pacific, unless the Shreveport office extends the warning. Do not treat the end time as an all-clear until weather.gov says the warning is over.
If you see flooding and you can do it safely, tell local emergency services or law enforcement and ask them to pass the report to the National Weather Service. Call 911 if you are trapped.
Recheck the warning before you travel late Sunday morning.
