Heavy morning storms have dropped several inches of rain on southeastern Okaloosa County, Florida. The National Weather Service says flash flooding is happening or is about to start. Stay off flooded roads. Turn around, don’t drown.
The National Weather Service office in Mobile issued this Flash Flood Warning at 6:52 a.m. CDT on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026. The warning runs until 9:45 a.m. CDT the same morning unless the office extends it. If this page and weather.gov disagree, weather.gov wins.
This is a new warning for southeastern Okaloosa County. It is not the river Flood Warning for the Shoal River near Crestview, and it is not the Flood Watch. Read this clock on its own.
The warning, in plain words
The product code is FFWMOB. The sender is the National Weather Service office in Mobile. The headline says the warning was issued October 4 at 6:52 a.m. CDT and lasts until October 4 at 9:45 a.m. CDT.
The area is southeastern Okaloosa County, in northwestern Florida. The county code on the alert is FLC091. The alert id is urn:oid:2.49.0.1.840.0.ca1643a2a7e568575d7ee9cb20a812c3ef285e2e.001.1.
At 6:52 a.m. CDT, weather radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain had fallen. Another 1 to 3 inches are possible. Flash flooding was ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
The hazard line says flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. The source line says radar indicated. The impact line names small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other poor-drainage and low-lying spots.
Places the warning names
The warning lists places that will experience the flash flooding: Wright, Fort Walton Beach, Niceville, Destin, Eglin Air Force Base, Valparaiso, Mary Esther, Lake Lorraine, Ocean City, Shalimar, Cinco Bayou, Eglin Village, Longwood, Postil, and Seminole. All of them are in southeastern Okaloosa County.
Those are the places the bulletin printed. This page does not add neighborhoods the warning left out. If your town is not on the list, you can still be in the warned area. The area is southeastern Okaloosa County, not only the named places.
This page names the county and those communities only. It does not print a street address.
A river Flood Warning is a separate clock
A Flood Warning is also in effect for the Shoal River near Crestview in Okaloosa County. The Mobile office says minor flooding is forecast. That warning continues until 7:00 a.m. CDT on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026. Flood stage on that gauge is 8.0 feet. The forecast crest is 11.0 feet on Tuesday morning.
That product is about the river. It is not this Flash Flood Warning. The flash flood warning is about heavy rain on streets, underpasses, and low spots this morning.
A Flood Watch is also in effect until 12:00 a.m. CDT Monday, Oct. 5, for Okaloosa County and nearby counties in northwest Florida and southwest Alabama. A watch means more heavy rain is possible. It is not the same product as this warning.
Use three clocks. This flash flood warning is the urgent one, and it is set to end at 9:45 a.m. CDT Sunday unless it is extended. The river warning can last until Thursday morning. The watch can last into Sunday night even after this warning ends.
Do not treat a canceled watch as a canceled warning, or the other way around. Check weather.gov for which product is still active.
What to do
Do not drive through water on the road. You cannot tell the depth. Six inches of moving water can knock you down. A foot or two can move a car. If you meet water, turn around.
Stay out of creeks, underpasses, and low parking lots that are filling. If you are in a low spot in southeastern Okaloosa County, move to higher ground before the street becomes the creek.
The Weather Service instruction is short: turn around, don’t drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
If you see flooding and you can do it safely, tell local emergency services or law enforcement and ask them to pass the report to the National Weather Service. Call 911 if you are trapped.
Recheck the warning before you travel Sunday morning. The end time on this page is 9:45 a.m. CDT unless the Mobile office extends it.
