Heavy rain is causing flash flooding around Tallahassee. NWS Tallahassee issued Flash Flood Warnings Monday afternoon, Oct. 5, 2026, for Gadsden County, central Leon County and central Liberty County in Florida, and parts of Decatur and Seminole counties in Georgia. They last until 7:45 p.m. EDT (4:45 p.m. Pacific). Tallahassee, Quincy, Midway, Havana and Gretna are named. Turn around, don’t drown.

Heavy rain is causing flash flooding around Tallahassee on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026. The National Weather Service office in Tallahassee issued two new Flash Flood Warnings this afternoon. Both last until 7:45 p.m. EDT (4:45 p.m. Pacific). Radar showed thunderstorms with heavy rain. Flash flooding is happening now or will start soon.
The first warning came at 4:43 p.m. EDT (1:43 p.m. Pacific). It covers all of Gadsden County, central Leon County and central Liberty County in Florida. Tallahassee, Quincy, Midway, Havana, Gretna, Lake Talquin, Bloxham and Hosford are among the places named. The second warning came at 4:49 p.m. EDT (1:49 p.m. Pacific). It covers northwestern Gadsden County, southwestern Decatur County and southeastern Seminole County in Georgia. Gretna, Recovery, Mount Pleasant, Hardaway, Faceville and Rosedale are named.
An earlier warning from 3:32 p.m. EDT still covers northwestern Gadsden County, east-central Jackson County in Florida, and the same parts of Decatur and Seminole counties. It runs until 6:30 p.m. EDT (5:30 p.m. CDT, 3:30 p.m. Pacific). Between 2.5 and 4 inches of rain had fallen there, and 1 to 2 inches more is possible. Chattahoochee, Sneads and Lake Seminole are named. A Flood Watch from NWS Tallahassee also covers the area until 8 p.m. EDT (5 p.m. Pacific), so more heavy rain is possible.
What to do: do not drive on flooded roads. Turn around, don’t drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles. Six inches of moving water can knock a person down. A foot or two of moving water can float a car or truck. You cannot tell how deep the water is from the driver’s seat. City streets and underpasses in Tallahassee can fill fast. Red clay roads and creek crossings in the country can wash out under the water. If you are in a low spot, move to higher ground. If you are trapped, call 911. If you can report flooding safely, tell local emergency services or law enforcement. Do not treat the end time as an all-clear until weather.gov says the warning is over.
