The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi has a Flash Flood Warning up for central Victoria County, Texas. The warning clock runs until 12:45 a.m. CDT on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026. If you are in that area tonight, stay off flooded roads.

This brief copies the warning the Weather Service issued at 9:44 p.m. CDT Saturday. It was still the active warning when this page was written, a little after 8 p.m. Pacific Time, which is a little after 10 p.m. Central. A warning can be extended or canceled. If this page and weather.gov disagree, weather.gov wins.

Most flood deaths happen in cars. The Weather Service line is the right one: turn around, don’t drown. At night it is harder to see the water.

The warning, in plain words

The product code is FFWCRP. The sender is the National Weather Service office in Corpus Christi. The headline says the warning was issued October 3 at 9:44 p.m. CDT and lasts until October 4 at 12:45 a.m. CDT.

The area named in the warning is central Victoria County, in south central Texas. It is not a warning for every county on the Coastal Bend. It is this county’s central part.

At 9:44 p.m. CDT, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain. The warning says between 3 and 5 inches of rain had fallen. Flash flooding was ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

The hazard line says flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. The source line says radar indicated. The impact line names small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other poor-drainage and low-lying spots.

Places and highways the warning names

The warning lists places that can see the flooding: Victoria, Victoria Riverside Park, Downtown Victoria, Victoria College, Victoria DeTar Hospital North, the Ball Airport area, Victoria Mall, Victoria Colony Creek Country Club, and Saxet Lakes.

It also names highways. U.S. 59 near mile marker 638. U.S. 77 between mile markers 572 and 576, and near mile marker 584. U.S. 87 between mile markers 808 and 814.

Those are the places the warning printed. This page does not add neighborhoods the bulletin left out. If your street is not on the list, you can still be in the warned area. The polygon is “central Victoria County,” not only the landmarks.

A separate flood advisory was also up

At 9:22 p.m. CDT the same office issued a Flood Advisory for Victoria County until 11:15 p.m. CDT. An advisory is not the same product as a warning. The advisory said minor flooding was expected in low-lying and poor-drainage areas, with about 2 to 4 inches already down and up to another inch possible.

The advisory named a longer place list than the warning, including Guadalupe, Victoria Regional Airport, Brentwood Subdivision, Telferner, Nursery, Salem, Wood Hi, Mission Valley, Fordtran, Oak Village, and Inez, along with several of the same Victoria landmarks.

Read them as two clocks. The advisory was set to end at 11:15 p.m. CDT. The Flash Flood Warning was set to run later, until 12:45 a.m. CDT. When you check, look at which product is still active. Do not treat a canceled advisory as a canceled warning, or the other way around.

What to do

Do not drive through water on the road. You cannot tell the depth at night. Six inches of moving water can knock you down. A foot or two can move a car. If you meet water, turn around.

Stay out of creeks, underpasses, and parking lots that are filling. If you are in a low spot in central Victoria County, move to higher ground before the street becomes the creek.

The warning instruction from the Weather Service is short: turn around, don’t drown, and be extra careful at night.

Recheck the warning before you travel early Sunday. The end time on this page is 12:45 a.m. CDT unless the office extends it. Use weather.gov or a Weather Service alert on your phone. Call 911 if you are trapped.
