National Weather Service: Isaias Rain Triggers Overnight Flash Flood Warnings Across Alabama and West Georgia, With Radar Estimating Up to 12 Inches Near Enterprise

Early Saturday, October 10, National Weather Service offices in Birmingham, Mobile, Tallahassee and Peachtree City issued Flash Flood Warnings as rain from Hurricane Isaias moved inland, with radar estimates of 5 to 12 inches near Enterprise and Elba, 5 to 8 inches near Opp, and 3 to 5 inches around Montgomery and Auburn.

As the remnants of Hurricane Isaias pushed inland from the Florida Panhandle overnight, National Weather Service offices issued a run of Flash Flood Warnings across south and east-central Alabama and west-central Georgia in the early hours of Saturday, October 10, 2026. Coastal Storm Surge Warnings and Tropical Storm Warnings remained in effect along the Panhandle and Big Bend.

This paper summarizes active alerts from the NWS public alert feed (api.weather.gov) as of about 3 a.m. CDT. Warnings expire and are reissued quickly; always check weather.gov or local NWS office pages for the latest.

Flash Flood Warnings (as issued)

  • Coffee County, Alabama (NWS Tallahassee, 1:42 a.m. EDT, until 4 a.m. EDT): radar indicated 5 to 12 inches of rain had fallen. NWS labeled the hazard "life threatening flash flooding." Locations include Elba, Enterprise, Fort Rucker and New Brockton. NWS said rain was tapering off but small streams, creeks and rivers "will rise quickly early this morning."
  • Covington County, Alabama (NWS Mobile, 1:34 a.m. CDT, until 3 a.m. CDT): 5 to 8 inches of rain had fallen; locations include Opp, Florala and Lockhart.
  • Montgomery, Lee, Russell, Macon, Bullock, Autauga, Elmore, Lowndes, Barbour and Pike counties, Alabama (NWS Birmingham, extended 2:21 a.m. CDT, until 3:30 a.m. CDT): 3 to 5 inches had fallen with 1 to 2 more possible. Locations include Montgomery, Auburn, Prattville, Phenix City, Opelika and Tuskegee. NWS listed stretches of Interstate 65 (mile markers 147–180) and Interstate 85 (mile markers 1–69) among affected highways.
  • Muscogee, Harris and Chattahoochee counties, Georgia (NWS Peachtree City, 2:05 a.m. EDT, until 8 a.m. EDT): rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour expected, with Columbus and Fort Benning among the locations named.

Coast: surge warnings still up

  • Okaloosa Coastal, Florida (NWS Mobile, 1:02 a.m. CDT): Storm Surge Warning for Destin, Eglin AFB and Fort Walton Beach, with potential for 3 to 5 feet of inundation above ground in surge-prone areas around high tide.
  • Coastal Franklin, Florida (NWS Tallahassee, 2:07 a.m. EDT): Storm Surge Warning for Apalachicola, Eastpoint, Carrabelle and Alligator Point, with potential for 2 to 4 feet of inundation.

What NWS is telling people to do

"Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles." NWS also urges extra caution at night, when flooding is harder to see. In surge areas, NWS says to "remain sheltered in a safe location."
