The National Weather Service (NWS) has posted Red Flag Warnings for much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties from 6 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2026 to 10 p.m. PDT Friday, October 16, along with High Wind Watches, Fire Weather Watches and Heat Advisories across Southern California and the Central Coast. Alert details below come from the NWS alerts feed as of about 1 a.m. PDT Wednesday, October 14.
NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard says moderate to locally strong Santa Ana winds will quickly develop Thursday, peak Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon, then weaken through the weekend, while dry air "will settle over the region and dry out any helpful effects of the recent rains." The office headlined a "high risk for extreme fire behavior with any new fire starts." Some of the windiest areas may see Red Flag conditions linger into Saturday.

What NWS advises
- Use extreme caution with anything that can spark a wildfire. Residents near wildland areas should be prepared to evacuate if a fire breaks out. NWS points to readyforwildfire.org and wildfirerisk.org.
- Secure outdoor objects, avoid parking under trees, and have a plan for possible power outages.
- In the heat, drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning and out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. If wildfire smoke reaches your area, NWS suggests having a cooling plan and setting air conditioning to recirculate.
