CRITICAL: 2016–2017 Silverado and Sierra roof-rail airbag inflator recall (26V611000)

CRITICAL (red emergency) — GM told NHTSA that a roof-rail airbag inflator end cap may separate or the inflator sidewall may rupture, which “can allow compressed gas to escape and project the end cap or fragments of the inflator into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.”

General Motors filed NHTSA campaign 26V611000 (GM N262569920) on September 24, 2026, covering about 1,559 Crew Cab trucks: 2016 Silverado 2500/3500 and Sierra 2500/3500, plus 2016–2017 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500. Regular and Double Cab trucks are not included. Dealers will replace both left- and right-side roof-rail airbag modules at no charge. Dealer notices went out September 24, 2026; owner letters for the remedy are expected around November 9, 2026. NHTSA does not list a do-not-drive or park-outside flag for this campaign.
