CRITICAL (red) — Mercedes-Benz USA told NHTSA “the front brake hoses may rupture and leak brake fluid” and “a brake fluid leak can extend the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 30,064 S-Class sedans (NHTSA campaign 26V638000): 2022–2025 S 500 4MATIC, S 580 4MATIC, Mercedes-Maybach S 580 and S 680 4MATIC; 2023–2025 S 580 e 4MATIC; and 2024–2025 AMG S 63 E Performance. The front brake hoses may wear out from heat and mechanical stress and leak brake fluid. There’s no warning beforehand; when it happens a red brake fluid warning may show in the instrument cluster. The recall expands an earlier one (25V116).

What to do: Check your VIN for campaign 26V638000. If a red brake fluid warning appears, contact a dealer before driving further. Dealers will replace the front brake hoses free. Owner letters are expected Nov. 27, 2026. Mercedes-Benz: 1-800-367-6372. NHTSA hotline: 1-888-327-4236. No do-not-drive or park-outside advisory has been set.
