CRITICAL (red). FCA US told NHTSA that "water may enter the electric power steering wiring harness, which can disable power steering assist," and "a loss of power steering assist can increase the risk of a crash." The loss can be intermittent or permanent and comes with no warning beforehand.

FCA US is recalling 265,512 Ram ProMaster vans (NHTSA campaign 26V621000, Ram recall 92D): 2022–2026 ProMaster 1500, 2500 and 3500, and 2024–2026 ProMaster 3500 EV. Water can get into the electric power steering wiring and corrode it, which can cut power steering assist without warning and make the steering suddenly heavy. The EPS warning light may come on when it happens. FCA US says it knows of one crash and no injuries possibly tied to the problem. NHTSA had opened an investigation (PE26-002) in March.

What to do: check your VIN now. If the EPS warning light comes on or the steering gets heavy, pull over safely and contact a Ram dealer. Dealers will inspect and, if needed, replace the wiring harness and power steering gear free, but the fix isn't available yet (FCA US expects it in the fourth quarter of 2026). Interim owner letters are expected Nov. 17, 2026. Chrysler: 800-853-1403. NHTSA hotline: 1-888-327-4236. No do-not-drive or park-outside advisory has been set.
