Red Ryder Prescribed Fire: Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest Area and Road Closure Through December 31, 2026

What is prohibited

Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a) and (b), the order prohibits going into or being upon the Red Ryder Prescribed Fire Project Area and Roads — including hikers, pedestrians, equestrians, bicycles, and any type of motorized vehicle — as described in the order and shown on Exhibit A (36 C.F.R. § 261.53(e)).

Boundary in plain terms

The area closure starts at the intersection of Sinks Road (FSR #20055) and Cheney Creek Road (FSR #20239), then follows:

• East along Cheney Creek Road about 1.12 miles
• East about 0.7 miles to South Fork Cheney Creek
• East along South Fork Cheney Creek about 1.22 miles to the Forest boundary
• South along the forest boundary about 2.45 miles to Tufts Creek
• Northwest along Tufts Creek Trail (FST #7031) about 3.88 miles to Slide Out Road (FSR #20272)
• Northwest along Slide Out Road about 0.18 miles back to Sinks Road
• North along Sinks Road about 1.92 miles to Cheney Creek Road

Legal description location: Township 13 North, Range 4 East, Sections 10–16 and 21–25, Salt Lake Base Meridian.

Closed roads named in the order

• Jebo Spring 4X4 Road (FSR 20175) — about 2.19 miles from Sinks Road to the end of the road
• USU Cabin Road (FSR #20271) — about 0.07 miles from Slide Out Road to the end of the road

Plus the ignition-day closure of Sinks Road (FSR #20055) during active fire ignitions.

Exemptions

Exempt under 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e):

1. Persons with a Forest Service permit specifically exempting them, or a written determination that a permit is not required under 36 C.F.R. § 251.50(e)(1) or (2)
2. Any federal, state, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting resource in official duty
3. Federal or state administrative personnel in official duty

How this differs from a wildfire emergency closure

A wildfire emergency closure often follows active fire growth and can shift weekly. Red Ryder is a prescribed fire project with a published end date of December 31, 2026 and a mapped project footprint on the Logan Ranger District. Still treat ignition days seriously: Sinks Road can close when crews are lighting.
