The Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, keeps public records about pollution. The website is called ECHO. It shows permits, inspections, and times a place broke a rule.
ECHO is a copy of older files. It is not a live camera.
EPA posts a table that says when each set of records was last copied, and when the next copy should come. Three sets were last copied on September 26, 2026. Those sets cover water permits, air pollution, and hazardous waste. The table says the next copy should be October 3, 2026.
There is also one big zip file for the whole country. Its name is echo_exporter.zip. On EPA’s download page it is still dated September 27, 2026, at 6:11 in the morning. It is 423 megabytes. If you download it this weekend, you are reading last week’s copy.
EPA says news can take time to show up. It might take a week. It might take as long as three months. A new problem in a state computer may not be in the file you have today.
Check the date on the file before you decide a place just broke a rule.

California water records need one extra check
One extra warning is for California water permits. EPA says the state had trouble sending discharge reports from late 2025 through June 2026. That window is the first quarter of 2026 through the third quarter of 2026.
A missing report, or a status that says Unknown, might be a real miss. It might be a handoff problem between the state computer and EPA. Open the Detailed Facility Report before you treat that row as a real violation.
Unknown is not a clean bill. It is also not, by itself, proof of a new violation. This warning is about California water. It does not change an air record, a hazardous-waste record, or a record in another state.
This page does not name a plant or a street.
