The White Mountain National Forest, run by the USDA Forest Service, is taking public comments on the Loon Mountain Resort Expansion Project near Lincoln, Grafton County, New Hampshire. Comments must be postmarked or received by Friday, October 23, 2026.

The Forest Service started its environmental review on October 6, 2026. It expects to prepare an Environmental Assessment and estimates a decision in October 2027.

What Loon proposes

According to the Forest Service notice, the project would expand the existing resort onto National Forest land with:

  • 4 new lifts
  • up to 145 acres of traditional ski terrain and up to 135 acres of glades
  • snowmaking and utilities
  • night skiing
  • three guest service facilities

The project page says the work would cover about 400 acres of National Forest System and private land southwest of the existing ski permit area. It carries out projects in Loon's 2024 Master Development Plan, expands the special use permit area and would amend the 2005 Forest Plan.

Issues the Forest Service flagged

Early review listed hydrology and wetlands, soils and wildlife as preliminary issues. The agency asks for targeted comments on effects that could be significant, could lead to a different alternative or could change the design.
