My students use Gemini to brainstorm creative ideas.

For nearly three decades, I’ve explored how classroom technology can help students find their voice. When generative AI arrived, I wanted my fifth graders to understand how to guide these tools thoughtfully, even without direct access.
Using a simple Google Forms setup, my students write and refine prompts that I run through Google Gemini on their behalf. In our art and values project, one student used descriptive prompting to create an image representing school values, bringing an idea to life that he previously lacked the drawing tools to express. During history, students used Gemini to compose original songs about Westward Expansion , fact-checking and editing lyrics along the way.
By treating Gemini as a brainstorming partner, my students are learning that technology works best when human creativity leads the way.
