Persifor F. Smith’s Mexico file is an August 1847 Valley of Mexico card. Under Winfield Scott he led brigades through Contreras and Churubusco and into the approaches that opened Mexico City — movements dated in Scott’s reports and the War Department’s Mexico campaign papers. Brevets followed the fighting; the sequence is Regular Army paperwork, not later street-name folklore.
Louisiana militia roots, Seminole service, and postwar Pacific and Department of the West commands sit elsewhere. This register lists Contreras–Churubusco and the Mexico City corridor: units, August 1847 dates, result. Smith died at Fort Leavenworth in 1858. The public-domain General P. F.
