WSO Capt. George H. Jourdenais also Unaccounted For. While missing, the Air Force promoted Stanley from first lieutenant to captain. Memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific and on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall (Panel 17E, Line 88). Robert William Stanley was born in Portland, Oregon, on April 18, 1941, and entered the Air Force from that state. By April 1967 he was a first lieutenant flying the F-4C with the 557th Tactical Fighter Squadron — strike work that put Phantoms down on storage parks where the pullout had to be exact.

On April 1 he led a three-ship against a Viet Cong storage area. His Phantom made three passes. On the third it did not pull out of the dive and crashed near the target. The other crews lost radio contact with both men aboard. No parachute was seen. Searchers could not reach the wreck in a way that closed the file. While carried missing, the Air Force promoted him to captain.
