Bob Jordan is rewriting Southwest’s product without rewriting its Heart

Fifteen jobs inside one airline is an unusual résumé. Bob Jordan has it. As president, CEO, and vice chairman of Southwest Airlines since February 1, 2022, the 38-year Southwest veteran is publicly leading what the company calls the largest transformation in its 54-year history — while still championing the hospitality culture that made the brand famous.

Southwest sells point-to-point passenger air travel, Rapid Rewards loyalty, and an expanding product set that now includes assigned and premium seating, redeye flying, new distribution channels, global airline partnerships, and Getaways by Southwest vacations. Bags fly free remains part of the customer folklore; the new seats and channels are the modernization story under Jordan’s watch.

Before the CEO seat he was chief commercial officer and held roles across finance, technology, strategy, and people — including president of AirTran during Southwest’s integration of that carrier. Texas A&M degrees and a Hewlett-Packard start frame the early path; the public leadership fact now is product change at scale without abandoning Southwest’s named Culture.

That dual brief — modernize the airline and protect Hospitality — is the profile’s hinge. Jordan’s Southwest still sells seats and service; the CEO chapter is about making those seats assigned, premium-ready, and commercially sharper while the company’s own pages insist the Heart brand stays central.
