Elliott Hill came home to put the athlete back at center court
Elliott Hill · President and Chief Executive Officer · Nike
“We're going to put the athlete back in the center of everything that we do.”
CNBC exclusive interview transcript, Squawk on the Street / Money Movers, Oct. 6, 2025
Most CEO stories are first-time arrivals. Elliott Hill’s is a return. After more than three decades at Nike — including as president of Consumer and Marketplace for Nike and Jordan Brand — he retired in 2020, then came back as president and CEO on October 14, 2024, answering a board call to lead the next chapter.
Nike designs, markets, and sells athletic footwear, apparel, equipment, and accessories under brands the public already knows by heart: Nike, Jordan Brand, and Converse. From running and basketball lineups to training gear and lifestyle sportswear, those named brands are how athletes and shoppers meet the company Hill leads.
Company biographies trace his path from a Texas Christian University kinesiology graduate and Dallas Cowboys assistant trainer to a Nike career that spanned Europe and North America. Before the first retirement he helped grow commercial operations across geographies; the public story now is a veteran operator re-centering the company on sport.
On his first day back he framed Nike as both a sport company and a growth company — and has since reorganized brands by sport (running, basketball, training, and more) under what he calls the “Sport Offense.” For a people-first profile, that is the arc: a Nike lifer who left, returned, and put the athlete back in the middle of the product story.
