A Flood Watch is in effect for portions of southern Alabama and northwest Florida as Hurricane Isaias approaches the northern Gulf Coast. NWS Mobile issued the Flood Watch product at 10:09 a.m. CDT Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026 (8:09 a.m. Pacific). The watch remains in effect from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon, until 1:00 p.m. CDT Saturday, Oct. 10 (11:00 a.m. Pacific). The Weather Service says flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. Alabama zones on the product: Baldwin Central, Baldwin Coastal, Baldwin Inland, Covington, Escambia, Mobile Central, Mobile Coastal and Mobile Inland. Northwest Florida zones: Escambia Coastal, Escambia Inland, Okaloosa Coastal, Okaloosa Inland, Santa Rosa Coastal and Santa Rosa Inland.
Impacts: excessive runoff may flood rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone spots. Flooding may also occur in poor drainage and urban areas. From Friday through the weekend, Isaias is expected to produce rainfall amounts of 3 to 7 inches across the central U.S. Gulf Coast from far southeastern Louisiana to the Florida Big Bend, with localized totals up to 15 inches possible, particularly within banding across the Florida Panhandle. Flash and urban flooding is possible across the region, with considerable impacts possible across much of southern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle.
What to do: a watch means flooding is possible. A warning means flooding is happening or about to happen. Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action if Flash Flood Warnings are issued. Do not drive into floodwater. Turn around, don’t drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles. Move to higher ground if you are in a low spot. If this page and weather.gov disagree, weather.gov wins.
