Hurricane Isaias: FEMA moves teams, rescue crews and supplies toward Alabama and Florida (Oct. 9, 2026)

On Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, FEMA said it has sent Incident Management Assistance Teams to Alabama and Florida, placed National Urban Search and Rescue teams around the region, and stocked distribution centers with food, water and generators as Hurricane Isaias nears the Florida Panhandle and Alabama coast. FEMA told Gulf Coast residents to finish preparing and to evacuate if local officials say so.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) put out an advisory on Friday afternoon, Oct. 9, 2026, saying it is moving people and supplies into place as Hurricane Isaias strengthens on its way to the northern Gulf Coast. Citing the National Hurricane Center, FEMA said the storm is expected to bring life-threatening storm surge and dangerous winds to the Florida Panhandle and the Alabama coast.

Officials in Alabama and Florida have issued evacuation orders and started opening shelters, FEMA said. Notice Nearby tracks the Northwest Florida county orders in a separate paper linked below.

What FEMA says it has in place

  • Incident Management Assistance Teams are deployed to Alabama and Florida to work alongside state staff and speed up state requests for federal help.
  • National Urban Search and Rescue teams are staged across the region in case rescues or evacuation help are needed.
  • Distribution centers in several parts of the country are stocked with food, water and generators, and more FEMA staff are ready to deploy.
  • FEMA has turned on its National Response Coordination Center in Washington, D.C., and the Region 4 Regional Response Coordination Center in Atlanta, which covers Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

What FEMA asks residents to do now

  • Sign up for local weather alerts and follow local officials.
  • Leave if you are told to evacuate. Know where you will go, how you will get there and where you can stay.
  • Make a plan for how you will reach family and friends after the storm.
