Oregon ballots mail Oct. 14: track yours with BallotTrax, use a drop box or mail by Oct. 27
The Oregon Secretary of State says county elections offices start mailing November 2026 general election ballots on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Every voter can now sign up for BallotTrax updates, more than 300 official drop boxes are available, and voters who mail are urged to do so by Oct. 27. A statewide mail test found every test piece sent a week before Election Day would have arrived in time.

The Oregon Secretary of State's office released a set of voter updates on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, the deadline for eligible Oregonians to register to vote in the November general election. Notice Nearby read the release and pulled out what voters can use, in our own words.
In short: ballots start going out Oct. 14, ballot tracking is available to every voter in the state, official drop boxes are the recommended way to return a ballot, and anyone mailing a ballot should do it no later than Oct. 27.
Who can register
The office says a voter must be a U.S. citizen, an Oregon resident and at least 16 years old to register; only people 18 and older receive a ballot. Registration and registration checks are online at OregonVotes.gov (https://sos.oregon.gov/elections/Pages/default.aspx).
Ballots go out Oct. 14
County elections offices begin sending ballots to Oregon voters on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026.
Track your ballot
Registered voters can sign up for BallotTrax at OregonVotes.gov/Track (https://sos.oregon.gov/elections/Pages/track-your-ballot.aspx). Sign-up needs first and last name, year of birth and ZIP code, and they must exactly match the voter record.
Voters choose text, email or phone updates. Alerts go out when the county sends the ballot, when the county receives it, and when it is accepted for counting. If a ballot is not accepted because of a signature issue, the voter is notified so they can take steps to make sure it counts.
The release says tracking covers every county for November 2026 because the Oregon Legislature provided $154,000 in emergency funding last month for the state to pay for the program.
Returning your ballot
The office calls official drop boxes the best and most reliable way to return a ballot. There are more than 300 across Oregon, counties will announce new drop box locations as they are set up, and a locator is at OregonVotes.gov/Dropbox (https://sos.oregon.gov/elections/pages/drop-box-locator.aspx).
For voters who use the mail, the Secretary of State strongly recommends mailing the ballot no later than Tuesday, Oct. 27, one week before Election Day.
What the mail test found
In August, the Secretary of State's office and Oregon's 36 county clerks ran a non-scientific test of mail timing. County clerks sent 108 pieces of mail back to themselves and tracked them.
On average, a piece of regular mail took 1.08 days to get a postmark and 4.06 days to be delivered. Times varied, and mail from rural counties took longer to be postmarked and delivered.
Every piece in the test would have been postmarked and delivered in time to count if it had been mailed one week before Election Day, the office says, which supports the Oct. 27 mailing recommendation.
