October 4, 2026

Archived when that week’s edition left the homepage. The order is the live stack: comics, Salted Pork Sunday, then the Sunday papers.

  • Mayor Moneybags. A top-hatted mayor counts cash at a desk while a citizen asks about the public notice. The mayor calls the charge a printing cost, then a processing fee. The citizen holds the notice, which is blank except for the mayor’s smiling face.
    Mayor Moneybags
  • The Notice That Got Away. A clerk lets go of a paper notice and it sails out the window, over a river, past a billboard, and into a canyon. The last panel shows the notice as a speck, with the line that it was published.
    The Notice That Got Away
  • News Desert Odd Couple. Two men on a desert porch. One reads a thick gazette. The other holds a phone that says no signal. A tumbleweed rolls by. Both end up staring at one legal notice nailed to the porch post.
    News Desert Odd Couple
  • Stuck With the Bill. A diner is handed a receipt taller than the table, asks about the charge, and is shown a line that says public notice. They say they only ordered coffee. The last panel shows them taped to the bill.
    Stuck With the Bill
  • Passport Stamp Circus. A customs stamp prints a tiny circus tent in a passport. The page fills with tents, elephants, and a ringmaster. An officer says the stamps are official. The traveler ends up buried in passport pages while a small circus band plays.

  • Federal Fine Print. A reader with a magnifying glass watches the type on a federal form shrink until they fall into the page. The last panel shows a tiny figure waving from a footnote that says see attachment K.

Salted Pork Sunday

Sunday waste-watch with receipts — pork spending, soft language, and the budget priorities Congress would rather cure than cut.

This week’s reads

  • Not a Hearing

Oregon hub cards that say they are not a scheduled hearing, versus the county calendar, OR-Alert, TripCheck, and a neighborhood poll that is not the November 3 ballot.

  • The 55% Box

FHWA Buy America manufactured-product rule that turned on October 1, 2026: made in the U.S. and more than 55% U.S. parts by cost.

  • A Row Is Not a Gavel

1,589 new tax-sale rows overnight; 131 counties with live rows; every Oregon county wired. A row is not proof the sale happened.

  • The Window Cling

A Made-in-USA window flag is not the car-loan interest test. Original use, U.S. final assembly, and a real loan.

  • Before the Keys Move

A weekend private sale needs the identifier copied off the plate, a written list, a cleared payment, and a handoff note.

  • Mail Follows the Form

After a move, USPS forwarding and updating each bill-sender are two jobs. A stranger text is not the post office.
